I am not a trophy

  I AM NOT A TROPHY :

Hippos, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, lions, antelopes, gorillas, leopards... The list of species hunted for a ridiculous "trophy" is long. This hunt is, in 2019, intolerable! We are indignant to find on the walls lion's heads, elephant tusks or giraffe skin. These animals deserve, just as we do, to live. Especially since most of these species are endangered. Help us stop this massacre through our campaign « I am NOT a trophy » and propose alternatives to the death of hundreds of animals.

Trophy hunting is a violent and expensive activity. Some regard it as a "sport", others as a mere pleasure ... An unhealthy pleasure, that of pointing a weapon at an animal, very often belonging to an endangered species, and shoot at him to many times. The animal can die from the bullets of its attacker, but it can also die of exhaustion. He has no possibility of escape, nor escape from this sad fate that the man has arranged for him. We kill for the pleasure of displaying a "dangerous" beast at his feet and display his macabre success on social networks or blogs. The animal can be killed with a firearm, but it can also be killed with a bow and arrows.

Part of the animal's body, or its entirety, is kept as a sign of Victory. The animal is then taxidermized, in order to give it a still alive and especially fierce appearance. The favorite targets of the hunters being the famous Big Five of South Africa, which includes elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and rhinoceros. On a dead animal, one can keep his head, his woods, his skin, his horns, his tusks or his tail. What we want, in other words. Wanted individuals are often lions, with darker manes, or older elephants with larger tusks.

If the first element, advanced by many practitioners is that of regulation, it turns out to be false. First, you have to know that some species, especially lions, are bought on farms. Accustomed to the contact of the man since the youngest age - this one having regularly used to make salts with the tourists -, the animal is not suspicious, comes in contact with the man much more easily. If, rare individuals are slaughtered directly, most of them will die of a long agony. The hunter, not having fun if the prey is too easy, will manage not to kill it directly. Field surveys have also shown that the animal is, often 24 to 48 hours before stalking, no longer fed. Worse, he can be drugged. Difficult to boast the argument of regulation, in this kind of case. And this same case exists for the various species of big cats, antelopes ... In addition, the United States House Committee on Natural Resources has published a study, in 2016, confirming that trophy hunting helped the disappearance of certain animal species.

Chapter Animals opposes the barbaric killing of these animals, most of them in danger of extinction if we do nothing to protect them. We simply want the ban on trophy hunting in the countries that practice it. Of course, solutions can be found to regulate species without the need to kill necessarily. The export of animal trophies must simply be prohibited. Support our fight, share our visuals below and make a donation that will help us do the right thing in the field.

  WHAT WILL YOUR DONATION SERVE?

Together we will be able to stop this massacre! We need your help. Chapter Animals is regularly traveling on the African continent, to take action to protect the animals of the archipelago of São Tomé and Principe. On these islands, too, the protection of animals is important. Many species of cetaceans come to show, sea turtles and many species of birds come to give birth to them. The local people help these species, protecting them. We would like that to happen across the continent. So yes, a lion or an elephant is not the same thing as a turtle, but animal protection is at the fingertips of every individual.

Thanks to you, we could :

- Expand our campaigns against trophy hunting, canned hunting and poaching.

- Help, thanks to financial means, natural reserves wishing to prohibit hunting.

- Ask airlines or shipping companies to stop transporting hunting trophies.

- Encourage governments to put an end to this barbarity.

- Make us more regularly on site and inform you of the situation.

- To be able to take care of animals destined to die and place them in our partner structures.
