Sanctuaries in emergency ?

We regularly talk about the creation of sanctuaries in France and abroad. Although our project is progressing little by little, that we have already begun to solicit some lands, to contact some municipalities and we will start to contact some circuses and zoos to inform them of our future, we hope to implement it as soon as possible. That's why we decided to tell you about some of the sanctuaries and shelters we enjoy and support!

SANCTUARIES, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE :

We regularly talk about the creation of sanctuaries in France and abroad. Although our project is progressing little by little, that we have already begun to solicit some lands, to contact some municipalities and we will start to contact some circuses and zoos to inform them of our future, we hope to implement it as soon as possible. That's why we decided to tell you about some of the sanctuaries and shelters we enjoy and support!

This is no secret, but the population of big cats in the wild continues to decline. Therefore, areas to protect them are essential. Many nature reserves are present on the African continent. We could talk about the great Kruger, probably one of the most beautiful and well-known, or the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi, which is home to a very large part of the African rhinoceros population. But these reserves are also a real paradise for trophy hunters and poachers! The lion Cecil lived in Kruger National Park before being drawn outside and shot by a trophy hunter. Moreover, if inside the reserve hunting is not allowed, do you figure that outside is the case. The animals, once they exceed a certain space become the prey of the hunters.

This is valid for wild animals. No or very few animals born in captivity were able to return to these nature reserves. On the other hand, other kinds of reserves are available for animals from captivity. They are sanctuaries and they are some on the African continent. The Shamwari Nature Reserve, Born Free Foundation - adopt a sanctuary animal -  saw Djunka, Nala and Shada, a lion and two lionesses seized from a French circus, and seem to have finished their lives there. More recently, the lion cub King, held as a pet in the Paris region could be transferred. Soon, the four lions seized from individuals Horus, Dadou, Cercei and Thea will join them.

Another well-known sanctuary of French associations, Sanwild which has been entrusted with Aldo and Tonga. Aldo and Tonga are two hippopotamuses who were seized French circuses. Aldo lived in the sanctuary, until his death as we confided the Brigitte Bardot Foundation through one of our tweets about Tonga, it always runs quiet days. And to stay on African lands, the sanctuary for big cats and monkeys Drakenstein Lion Park - adopt a shrine lion - has also been able to welcome many lions from France. This was the case of Brutus, declawed and so beaten that his jaw will remain deformed for life; Arès, who was suffering from an untreated eye disease; Ena, who lived locked up in a box crate under a horse trailer; Samson, who lived on the floor of his truck, barely space to get up. It was in this one that we had urgently requested a place for Nale / Elyo; Natcher / Sultan and Betty, in April 2018. We do not forget the Lionsrock Sanctuary - make a donation -, particularly loved and having collected the wildcat caught last year in a wintering grounds.

In Europe, a few similar structures are present. Animal Advocacy and Protection (AAP) is a temporary or definitive center hosting many wild or domesticated animals before placing them in larger sanctuaries where possible or Natuurhulpcentrum Wildlife Rescue Center, which, like AAP, is a place of transition for animals to foreign sanctuaries. In France, le Refuge de l'Arche et Tonga, Terre d'accueil - make a donation - collect the animals in order to hope to send them to the lands of their ancestors whenever possible. The first has a panther, probably from a circus that did not declare it and the lion Baringo, which belonged to a French circus. The second has to date, the four cubs that will be transferred to Shamwari soon, as well as the four lions of the circus Bostok - Louga, Saida, Bellone and Angela - to name a few.

If the work of these structures is great, it becomes difficult for them to collect all the animals that are imposed on them. That's why Chapter Animals is aware of this, and aware that the big cats can not live in cages forever hoping for a transition to South Africa would like to open its first sanctuary soon. We hope to build it in the south of France, since the warm climate would be closer to South Africa. We would also like to collaborate with former circus and experienced wildlife teams to ensure maximum animal welfare. Our choice to collaborate with Circassians who would have stopped their activity is quite simple. They have an understanding of animals, this would allow circuses - which overall has a negative image of sanctuaries - to be reassured, possess the necessary abilities certificates and this would allow them to have a whole new vision of life in semi-freedom with wild animals that can cover several hectares.

We would also like our sanctuary to be a place of transition, and that some may have the chance to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors through the Drakenstein, Lionsrock and Shamwari shrines. And why not, ideally, be able to offer a real second chance to lions who have sometimes had no luck.

  WHAT WILL YOUR DONATION SERVE?

Chapter Animals is ready to get in touch with other French and international associations and foundations to discuss the subject. We are planning two sanctuaries, divided into several structures. A first, in France, can accommodate big cats, then laboratory monkeys (or any other animal that we can eventually replace later). A second on the archipelago of Sao Tome and Principe, allowing some African species to find a real haven of peace on the spot and that would help to make work the local population. Of course, all this has a cost, we need your help. Even if your donation is only 5 euros, it could serve us. Imagine seeing Bellone, Ben-Hur, Betty, or Sirius running through tall grass and trees.

Thanks to you, we could :

- Finance the purchase of land and building materials.

- Begin construction of enclosures and buildings for quarantine and care.

- Get in touch with the laboratories, the circuses and the organisms needed to help the animals.

- Find the staff and volunteers needed to complete the project.

- Offer care (transportation, care, food) for animals.

- Help the local population to work with us and teach them the species involved.
